With the implementation of a new system developed by Thailand's National Electronics and Computer Technology Center (NECTEC), it will be possible to verify voters during elections using a mobile phone. The system developed by NECTEC combines a traditional approach with e-voting using blockchain technology. In addition, it is expected that with the implementation of the new system, candidates will be able to register in the system on their own, and election supervisors will be able to verify both candidates and voters in advance. At the same time, on election day it will be possible to participate in voting by email.
According to a representative of the agency, this NECTEC development is suitable both for national or local elections and for commercial entities: for example, when forming a company's board of directors. It is worth noting that in the summer of 2018, the Swiss city of Zug held its first trial local elections using blockchain technology, and the authorities of the Japanese city of Tsukuba tested its use in voting on programs for the city's further development. Earlier, the company Agora claimed that it had helped conduct presidential elections on the blockchain in Sierra Leone, but the country's government categorically denied this information.
